Anyone can host their own foodie fundraiser! You may be a passionate cook, a dinner party enthusiast or simply love sharing your favourite food with loved ones.
You could host a brunch with colleagues at your workplace, a dinner party or BBQ at home, or an international potluck night with your parish.
Ask for help from your family, friends, work colleagues or other parishioners. There’s lots of talented chefs out there who would love to show off their cooking skills. If not, ask people to pick up their favourite treats from the supermarket.
Book the parish hall or other suitable venue and set a date and time. When planning your event, make sure you know how much food you will have at your event to prevent food wastage. You could bring Tupperware, so people can take leftovers home!
Use social media to spread the word! You could even notify the local press, or put a notice in your parish newsletter. See our top 10 tips for more ideas on how to promote your event.
Lay out the tables, decorate them and present your spread. You could price up the items, charge per plate or ask for a donation.
If you’re feeling competitive, you could run a cooking competition. Host a Masterchef style event, asking people to judge their favourite dish and donate to cast their vote. Or, if you know some particularly accomplished cooks, ask them to go head-to-head in a jollof rice cook off, a BBQ meat or veggie grill off or bake-off style technical challenge.
Remember to tag @cafod if you post on social media, or email events@cafod.org.uk to tell us all about your foodie fundraiser.
